Homogenized ADR
There is a scene in THE AVIATOR where Howard Hughes, played by DiCaprio, approaches Louis B. Mayer, asking to borrow 2 cameras from MGM to complete a 26-camera dogfight sequence for his film. Obviously Mayer is amused by the request, but in a power play proceeds to shoot down the ambitious outsider. At the end of the scene, DiCaprio walks away, at which point a piece of ADR is superimposed in...

What happens when you can’t get the rights to that must-have...

Waiting In The Dark
Today I saw a 35mm print of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND. There’s a running list in my head of films to see on the big screen. I often get more excited about these events than I do about a new film release. I think it’s because when I already appreciate the work, I am thrilled to see it in its proper setting. While we wait in the dark, we anticipate a work among works. When the...

Muppets In Cases
Today I went to the Jim Henson exhibit at The Museum Of The Moving Image in Brooklyn. It was very surreal to see the Muppets in cases, and I realized it was a very unique feeling to, in a way, meet friends from your childhood whom you’ve never actually seen in person. I especially got a little teary seeing Bert and Ernie. All I can think to say is thank you Jim Henson from all us kids...
