I think each NYC subway line should be an endless loop of cars going in their respective directions, so that you are never waiting for a train. Instead, you simply gauge your jump into the continuously passing subway cars. They’re fast enough to get you places in a timely manner, but slow enough for a pseudo-dramatic Indiana Jones leap. The people inside brace you (if need be) as you enter, and when it comes time to get off at your stop, the platforms are padded for a safe landing.
